Did you look into red dots at all?

That's what I'm leaning towards. Most scopes average in length more than the barrel of the gun itself, and for some reason, it would just seem to "overkill" to me. Heck, even with my .22 Matchmaster rifle, I usually don't push past 50 yards.

Looking at the Burris red dot sight right now, and I've always had a hankering for a C More, but I hate the fact that you need to buy the 2 MOA module with the C More seperate and spend the extra money. Heck, may just look at a narrower front sight.

Before I decided on the Monarch scope, I almost purchased this:

Ultradot FOUR

based on recommendations on various gun forums.

Just my $0.02

Well birthday came and went, but came home and told the better half that I finally picked up my birthday present.

She made the comment that it was an odd looking scope:eek:

I'm now thinking about putting some sort of optic on this Ruger instead of the other one:D

Nice!!!

Is that the GP-161? Hard to tell from the pic, I'm speculating. I looked at one a while back, but ended up with a 1911 instead.

Good on ya. I want one...BADLY! I've got a bunkload of .357 ammo and nothing to shoot it in.

That looks a lot like my S&W 686.:D

That model was actually in my sights (no pun intended).

Funny that they had a S&W 610 sitting under the glass, and I love that caliber (and was actually thinking about that gun), but just couldn't justify the price they were asking for it.

Is that the GP-161?

Ruger GP100. Figured $475 at this time wasn't a bad price.

I actually put it on layaway the other week because I was feeling guilty about changing my mind on my "birthday present", but when I got back to the office, a guy (who I was trying to buy his 686 from) told me that he called his distributor after I told him what I was buying (he wanted another wheelgun) and his distributor told him everything from Ruger was on backorder. So...I thought I'd just go down and get it while I can so no mistakes were made.

I don't like to run and scream the sky is falling, but man, the local gun shop was a mad house.

Felt like I was at K-mart waiting in line to pay for the dang gun. Guy in front of me paid $2300 in $100 bills for ammo. All Kimbers are on backorder (none in stock), no black rifles whatsoever, and a couple of AK's that were going for $400 a couple of months ago are now $575. Everything from every manufacturer seemed to be on backorder with no one knowing when anything was shipping. Heck, the guy behind me got into an "in depth" discussion with the shop owner when the owner informed the customer that he wasn't taking layaways on AR's.

I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it. Sort of like what I hear Walmart is like the day after Thanksgiving.

I looked at one a while back, but ended up with a 1911 instead.

Love my 1911's, but just had a hankering for a nice fun wheelgun, and figured the scope could wait:D

I know I can't be the first gun enthuasist who started with one idea, but ended up with something completely different:eek:

I know what you mean...been there, done that! What I failed to mention is that when I found my 1911, I had been looking for AR's and/or a .357 wheelgun. Since I gun shop often, I knew that the 1911 was a find and that I wouldn't run across another one anytime soon. Since I bought it, a buddy now wants the same model...can't find it anywhere and there's a huge backorder on it. So I don't feel so bad, because I see .357's all over the place.

Your logic is correct about the scope. You can ALWAYS find a scope, accessories, etc. But, you can't always find the pistol you want!

I walked similar path. I was looking for 1911 about year ago and found GP100 4" for a great price. Could not find 45 in that price range that I would like so I scraped the whole idea of getting an auto. I never really shot an auto extensively, except SW 22A and CZ 52 and 82 in the Army, there is something about revolvers.
