One of our sons drives several different routes on a regular basis, primarily through Kentucky. Most of the routes keep him on the road 10-12 hours a day and out of cell service much of that time. We've agreed that if there is a reasonable phone option, we need to explore it. I'd appreciate any first-hand experience or knowledge from users or owners of sat-phones about things from service coverage to call quality to costs. Thanks very much for any help.

its quite expensive... In another forum it the topic comes up every now and then..

IIRC - phone start around $500 and push up over $1k, calls are dollars per minute and up..

Thanks. We pretty much expect that....we're prepared for a cost up to 1K on the phone if necessary. Calls would be very limited, but when they are needed, $10/minute would not deter us. We were hoping to come up with a good solution for 800-1500 per year, anticipating perhaps 30 minutes a month if cost is low enough....we could probably get by with 10 minutes a month if the per minute cost is excessive. Beyond that it would be for emergencies, and frankly at that point the cost would be immaterial.
