I love sardines, couldn't think of life without them ! Grill them on the barbecue outside because of the smell with a touch of olive oil and herbs.

Out in Newfoundland we eat something called Capelin. It ios similar to sardines or anchovies. They are small fish that come in to shore during summer. Then when they are caught they get smoked or salted and dried. Lots of Newfies either put them on the BBQ or eat them straight.

If you do come across some NEVER put them in a microwave. The smell will drive almost everyone out of the building and then you'll have to get rid of the microwave.

I don't know why I wasn't thinking well enough to realize the empty can would do the job instead of wasting good sardines,:ashamed: but many years ago, I used sardines to trap some skunks and more recently to trap a stray cat. It's the best bait I know of for that purpose.

A buddy told me that one of the best ways to get rid of a neighbors cat is to put down a 50/50 mix of tuna and mineral oil. The mixture will attract the cat, the mineral oil will be a natural laxative. So when the cat gets home the friendly neighbor that lets his cat do its business in your yard will have the same business all over his house.

Makes his cat his problem, and very quickly and no harm or stress to the cat. Except by the cat owner

Fisherman in Czech fry small fish breaded in hot oil. The name for it is grundle and they taste great with just salt, freshly made.

Apparently the same word in English means something else, didn't know that.

Those look pretty good ...did you dip them in something before they went on the grill? Is it a main course? What are you having with them?

I've read that during the winter months smelts come in from the sea and run up the rivers of Maine. Maybe some Mainers can give up some recipes???

The only fish I ever catch are small!:ashamed:

Up hear when the LaHave River freezes there are numerous ice fishing huts set up. I believe they are catching capelin?

Sardines also come in Mustard sauce!
