I made the mistake of tossing one in the trash at work on a Friday evening. The cleaning person did not show up Friday night. It sat there all weekend. A tasty smell on Monday! :licking: :laughing:

Also...they are the best bait to use in a live catch trap for coons, possums, and cats. Punch a few small holes in the oil packed cans and place on the trap pan..

Dave, next time try just leaving the "empty" can in the trap. I guarantee that it will still bring them in. Just eat the sardines or tuna or whatever and leave the oil or water and bait the trap with the empty can. At least this way you don't waste the goods. Works everytime for me.:thumbsup:

Didn't even consider that Jay. Next time, I will do just that.
If it works, no sense in wasting them.

I do know they use sardines in punctured cans and nailed to a series of trees to get an idea of the bear populations in some areas. The cans are nailed chest high and biologists check the bite marks.
