I live in Portugal and have a 1985 SAME Mercury 85 special 4wd.
I doubt anyone on this forum has one; but if someone does, add a post here and I'll get a notification.

As far as I know there is no English language manuals for this model, however I've done quite a bit of work on mine and have been building up some knowhow.

The Alternator and starter are magneti marelli but are rebuildable with Bosch parts.

AGCO sold those same tractors built by SLH, under different name/numbers here in the USA, so there are several of them around here...

Same Mercury 85 special 4wd, 1985;

I'm not actually looking for anything at the moment; I'd like to have spec sheets and any available tech manual.
[English preferred but I can read Dutch too]
I just repaired the starter motor and found that there are no numbers on it [which is odd]. Since it works again it doesn't really matter now, but if I had needed a replacement it would have been a real hassle.

It would be useful to know what parts are interchangeable with what other machines, as finding an identical parts donor is far less likely.
So far I haven't needed many model specific parts, but when I did have to order them they were VERY expensive [brake master cylinder kits for instance].

It would be nice to have contact with other owners to be able and share such info.

Thanks!

PM me your email address. I have a pdf for parts breakdown for the 85. I don't have a service manual for 85, but I do have a pdf service manual for a Jaguar 95 which is very similar, just has 5 cylinders instead of 4 cylinders.

I searched again yesterday, and the SDF historic archive is now live. I was able to download a PDF service manual.
Unfortunately, it's made from scanned images, so is not searchable.
And it cost me 15 Euros.
It doesn't appear to be all that comprehensive, but it will be good to have if I ever need to get into the motor or hydraulics.
Actually, I've already been into the hydraulics a little...

Thanks, I'd be very thankful for the parts sheet.
PM to follow!

I thought a picture of the SAME Mercury would be in order; the loader is from a 1965 MF35, I made the rops and the hedge cutter in my home workshop.
And some other stuff not pictured.

NICE tractor, I've seen Explorer models around here...

Here's my Vigneron 60,

It's been a pretty good tractor,

Its an old post and not sure if you still have the SAME Mercury 85 but I have a SAME Mercury 75 and the alt. name that helped me find things was to use Centurion instead of Mercury. I have the service manual and owners manual for mine and I believe they say centurion on the service manual.

As stated above, I did find a manual.
Yes, I still have the Same; I changed the clutches, rear axle seals, installed 3point shaft bushings [had to bore the gear case!] changed the front axle bushing, rebuilt the steering cylinder [new end joints] and other things.
I think I had to consult the manual for torque settings on the clutch.

Looks like quite the overhaul. How has it been getting parts during your rebuild?

It was ok; I didn't need much make-specific parts, just the clutch plates mainly. My local tractor shop got everything for me at a decent price.
Brake cylinder kits were expensive though.
It seems most parts are still available. I'm told I can get cylinders + pistons.
bearings and seals are standard sizes from local bearing shop; the U-joints in the front end too.
Pins and bushings I make myself.
I buy 'spherical bearings' for linkages and hydraulic cylinder ends.
I made a drill powered carbide cutting tool to bore the egg shaped 3point hole in the gearbox round, then made steel bushings to fit and pressed them in.

I have recently acquired a Mercury as well. I know this is an old post but would you be willing to help me? I am trying to put a front end loader on mine as well. can you take pictures of how and where you connected, bolted the mounting frame on the tractor? Where wouldSAME.jpg you tap into the hydraulics for the loader? Did you happen to locate a service Manual? Any help would be a blessing and truly appreciated.

Give me some time and I can take some better pictures of where the loader mounts. The hydraulics just have the lines run to the rear of the tractor. I just unhook the tilt hoses when I have to pull something that requires use of the ports but it isn't often. I do have a service manual, search for SAME Centurion 75, its the same tractor and that is how you fill find the manual and parts. Oh, for parts, I call Hoover tractor out of PA, they have been very helpful and can get some of the parts but not everything. Feel free to ask anything, I don't know a ton but I can hopefully help.

I looked back in my old threads. I have a KMW D-600 loader on mine. Not sure if that would be of any help or not but just wanted to mention it.

Long time since I posted here...
I've done some work on the old tractor, rerouted and upgraded the hydraulic system, and at the moment reassembling the top of the motor. It had a blown head gasket and the smoke was getting pretty bad.

I'm only waiting for the exhaust flange gasket and I can start it up again.
I also had to do some repair to the steering and I have some brake trouble I hope to solve.

I found I can get new aftermarket master cylinders for 55 euros each, but the add states to only use LHM mineral oil; the original oil used is ATF. Similar but not the same.

Is anyone still interested?

A few pictures of the top end rebuild I'm working on right now.
While bringing the tractor into the garage, I saw that the left wheel had a loose bearing; bolts had come loose. I had to take it all apart to clean and repack the steering bearings (taper roller bearings), and I put in proper seals to replace the original rubber disks.
The pistons were worn but the cylinders weren't; an odd situation.
I had the valves and seats ground, and the injectors checked. one was bad.

Looking good Mark!

These air cooled engines just run forever, even with bad injectors and pistons. Rebuilding them is not too terribly bad either.
