anyone seen anywhere that sells this? everything now is a multi-grade 80w-90 or synthetic 75w-90. i just want a straight 80 for the transmission/final drive in an old car i'm buying. i only need a couple of quarts.

i've seen some motorcycle/atv documentation that mentions 80 weight oil. i suppose if there's nothing left in the automotive industry i can look to cycles.

Why not use 75W-90? I presume it is a manual transmission and the only difference will be slightly thinner when cold and slightly thicker when hot. I have not seen 80w at any cycle shops but then my bikes also call for 75w-90.

it will never have to deal with cold, so i don't need the benefit of the winter viscosity, even though it is nearly the same. it's more the other end of the spectrum i'm concerned with. i really don't want to subject the drive train to any thicker oil than necessary. we're talking 65hp @ 4700rpm if i remember correctly. i'd prefer to go with what it had originally, if possible.

I'd check with the people over at bob is the oil guy website about where to find straight 80 wt gear oil. If it was mine, I'd run a 75w90 synthetic.

you can still get 90wt gl1 at napa i think 65-201 is the 1g jug number.. and 65-205 is the 5g pail.
