Hey guys my tie rod ends have worn a big egg shape in my knuckles. I guess the previous owner didn't know what those nipples on them were for. Anyway im going to need to drill and put a tapered insert in the knuckle but I don't have any good measurements for the tie rod end to get a insert. I need the base ant the top of the taper measurements if anyone has a spare tie rod end laying around.
Thanks

Hi there,

I own a Satoh Stallion S-750D, and I've been looking for another one for parts, which are hard to come by. Any chance you'd be interested in selling yours?

No it runs too good. I'm in the middle of turning new bushings for the knuckles. im thinking of using chevy 1 ton tie rod ends and the tapered insert. Ought to be worth trying. I hope it lasts another 30 years.

Very cool. Be sure to report back, and let us know how that works out for you.

Mine has a bad steering spindle. The guy that owned it before me put an SAE crown nut on it, stripped the threads, and put in a key that was the wrong size. So now it's all torn up; and the left wheel has about 20 degrees of play in it. I may need to have one made.

Thanks!

You can make a tapered insert by wrapping fine wire on a mandrel smaller than your male taper. It makes a sorta spring that you can install on the taper by turning it on in a backward fashion so it opens up as you turn. Then put a little moly in the female, install and tighten. The original parts are hard and the softer wire crushes filling the excess clearance as it is forced in. I used stainless wire, but I think copper might work. You might not get it in all the way but youll get significant intimate contact and stop the wallowing.
