s650g Satoh Bison PTO issues

Hello All,

I have a Satoh s650g. When I try to engage the PTO it doesn't want to work. Without depressing the clutch I can move the PTO engaging arm up and down without grinding or anything. Sometimes I can catch it just right and the PTO will engage, but you never knwo when that is. It worked yesterday and just didn't today. There was no event or anything that caused this to happen. Can anyone help? thanks

I don't have our Bison here to look at, but I seem to remember a roll pin on the pto lever. Perhaps it has sheared ? If not, then something has sheared internally. I've had to tear down a couple Gravely riders to fix sheared roll pins in the transmission. 4 hours of work and mess to replace a $1 roll pin.

Thanks for the info about the shear pins. Does anyone have a diagram of the pto setup. That would help me greatly when i go to tear it down.

Here are instructions from the repair manual and one extra diagram I have collected.

these old tractors do not have a live pto you have to depress your clutch to engage pto.
other wise you will wipe out your gears . there is an over running clutch you can put on your pto to keep inplement from over driving your tractor
