S-tine cultivator build....

This started life as a 15' tripple row tow behind model that my dad picked up at auction, took what he needed out of it, and give me the rest. I forgot to get pics of what I started with, but let's just say it didn't resemble anything like an attatchment after we hacked it up so I could haul it 350 miles home in the back of my pickup. Was a huge pile of steel and tines.
But anyhow... got it home and started cutting and grinding like mad to make the main frame, and 3pt hitch. This was the easy part.... things got out of hand after this, you know how that goes with some builds

Next since I has a bunch of extra steel and tines I thought.... why not build some fold up "wings". So.... bit more fab later I had 20" extension wings made. Now how to build hinges? Hit up my scrap pile of steel and found some 3/4" solid shaft and some thick wall pipe that fit the shaft pretty darn good.

Here's where things got crazy with this build. I had wanted some roller/basket harrows to follow behind to help firm the soil and break up clods. Well searched all over for some used ones, but no dice. Well guess I'll have to build them....

I wanted the angle iron on the side rollers and main center roller to be as close together as possible when in use, so... I got the bearings and put Z bends in the roller arms... more pics on that later...

Now on to the wing rollers and mounts. Note the teflon bushings between the mounts and the arms, this will create a sort of bearing/wear pc instead of metal on metal.

All built and mounted..... Tore down last nite for final paint, should have finished pics up in couple days.

All in all I think this turned out awesome!!! Was a fun build and way to pass the winter months.

Forgot these pics earlier.... I wanted to cap off the gap between the angle iron and the circles to create more surface to weld too. So out came the hand shear and about 14' of 1/8"x 1 1/2" flat bar. After 45 of these my shoulder sure could feel it!!!!

The wings may not seem like much, but at another 40" of coverage per pass it can add up fast I plan to use this in my corrals (with wings folded up), and every couple yrs in my pastures (wings down) to help break up the compaction from the horses and allow the spring snow melt to soak in rather than run off and puddle up.
