Hi,

Bought a S370 Beaver and was going over it. I found one of the bolts snapped on the front differential to knuckle housing. There is about 1/8 to 1/4 gap between the two housings on the bottom. The top is touching. Both sides are about same. (see Pic)

I'll have to pull the knuckle assembly to get the broken boltout.

I assume they should be bolted up tight against each other?

Yes they should be tight to each other...

I would use new bolts also, good luck

I took it apart to drill out bolt. Dang bearing was out too. Both sides. Not really surprised being it was angled.

Have to find bearings and figure out how bearings goes in. From the looks of it, bearing is snap ring to shaft and shaft has to come in from the hub side.

My new to me S370D had a similar issue, both sides had loose bolts, but none were broke. I tightened them all up pretty good, but I never checked for broken bearings. Was yours making any noises that you could hear from outside the housing or did you only notice it when you took it apart? Was everything driving good otherwise? I just pumped mine full of grease and dont really feel like pulling it all apart to check bearings, unless I know what to listen for and hear it.

I didn't hear any noise but I'm about half deaf and engine is quite loud.

I pulled it because I needed to drill out broken bolt. That side bearing was out so I pulled the other side to check too.
It's not hard to do. Better safe than sorry. If you break parts, they are getting hard to come by and expensive.

I have the luxury of having a tractor that doesnt run at the moment. Im waiting on an oil ring which should come today and everything can go back on. If you want to see my trials and tribulations heres the link.

Im on dad duty today and my little helpers are more like saboteurs so I dont get to have tractor time until nap time. Ill double check my front bearings this weekend, my first priority is cycling hydraulics and flushing all the crap out of the lines. Ill run it around the homestead in 2wd so I dont cause any damage before the inspection. Do you have any pictures of your teardown and replacement? Where did you find new bearings?

I ordered the bearing from Valley Power

I work in Alaska so parts should have arrived by time I get back home.

Teardown is pretty straight forward. You can remove bearing without taking wheel gearbox off but I did so I could clean out all the old grease.
