RV Generator Question

   / RV Generator Question #21
Only problem is that I don't believe the Honda 3K has the 500w surge like the Yamaha..My TT dealer says that is necessary to start the 15k AC..That's what they use anyway. Price on the 2 is a wash, portability is the main issue. The Yamaha wont fit under my bed cover, so that creates a problem..Additionally, the Yamaha is pretty heavy for lifting on and off the truck by myself, ain't asking the little lady to get into that and can't always count on someone else being around (not leaving it).

No way I would lift any generator. Mount it on the camper. I have done this to 3 or 4 trailers.

Camper stays at the campground most of the summer..Don't want to leave it out doors even if covered.

I mount mine securely where it would be more difficult to steal than a axle, which I have seen done 3 times. I then have my tent and awnings guy make a custom cover.

The EU3000IS will easily start a 15K A/C system if you switch off the ECO option first. Then start the A/C and return to ECO. The EU3000IS electric start version MAY work it on ECO because of the battery assist, but the EU3000I Handy will have some trouble on ECO.

Duuno..The specs say it will start "most" 13.5k AC units. My TT dealer told me they use the Yamaha 3K with the 500w boost because that's all that will correctly start a 15k...I'm certainly no expert, but my motorhome had an on-board 4k.

5 years ago we installed a Honda 3000 on a House Boat with a Roof Top AC unit. If the boat set for a day it would start the AC on its initial cycle but would not on subsequent cycles. I was told it takes mor power to start on the following cycles because the pressure is built up in the AC system which in turn draws more current.

That's true. They make a switch that can be installed in the AC to bring up the power slower instead of the normal surge. Not sure if it bleeds off the psi too..Don't know that one.

There are capacitors you can add prior to the compressor that help with the startup surge of air compressors.

I bought an EU2000i (Honda Generators Direct) last month but really need another to parallel. Can I parallel a 2000 with a 6500? Or does it have to be another 2000?

Also, is there a price on the 7000 yet?
