I did the same thing on my 850. I had cal clor in the rear rims, and it ate away the stem hole. I cut out a nice sqare around the hole, with a torch. I took an old truck rim with the same curve as my rim, and cut out the "square" to match.
Mig welded it in place, and I'm not a welder by no means. I drilled some new holes on the opposite side of rim and ground down my weld, so the inside and outside were smooth.
I painted the rim and used inner tubes. My rims are now like brand new.
