My wife took out the B2601 to clean out **** from her chicken Coops.
She played almost an hour with the brake on.
I walked up to the tractor and is smelled foul.
Did she hurt anything?
These tractors don't have rotors, pads or brake shoe's? Correct?
Isn't braking done via the transmission?

It will be ok, It won't be the last time either..... happens a lot ....:)

They have brakes.

Consists of a set of friction and metal plates (5 pieces). Each side is approximately $70 to $75.

Suggest you look at the illustrated parts drawings at Kubota.com, Messick's or others.

It appears to be constructed the same as the multi-disc wet clutches commonly used in motorcycles. I have forgotten to release the brake several times, I have usually caught it fairly quickly.
In your case, fortunately, they seem to be able to survive such things pretty well.

You found a poorly engineered problem of lower horsepower tractors. Larger tractors have better visual indication of the parking brake actuators and a brake on warning lamp.

The parking brake on the B20 absolutely sucks and was hardly ever used. B26 made improvements but my wife did the same thing with a new tractor. While I set the brake harder and thus more noticeable, that tractor sees multiple operators. Hillside farm really need a parking brake.
Made several modifications. Added a brake on warning light. Under the cowl there was already a metal bracket with hole for a motorcycle rear brake light switch. Only had drill a small hole in the lever for the switch spring. While apart welded an right angle handle extension. This brought the handle up and gave better visual indicator also. My wife uses it regularly and no more running with brake on. IMG_0487.JPG

Check the brake adjustment, it may need to be snugged up a bit. You may choose to change the hydraulic filter after 10-15 hours of run time. Setting the brake firmly is the best preventative to moving with the brake on. If the tractor struggles to move, it should be apparent.
Running with the brake on is never a design deficiency but always a lack of situational awareness on the part of the operator. Even if I happen to do it.

That's an excellent modification, thanks for sharing it. I haven't examined things in detail, but the amount of disassembly needed to repair the brakes is probably extensive.

We've done this a lot on my little BX2200. Especially when we first got it. To this day, the brake still works fine, no issues. It's probably had at least a 100 hours of ride time with it in... In your case, think of it as burnishing it in. It should give a good hold now.

Burnished in, I like that. I will have to remember that when I have those senior moments.... burnished it again. LOL

I put new brakes on my JD 435 and used it once . My son then operated it for 15 minutes in road gear with it labouring hard on level ground and having to steer left to keep it straight . Ruined the new brake disk . Burned the paint off the brake housing .

I don't about friction and metal plates on each side of a B2601.
I've had a flat on the front. I pulled the front wheel and didn't notice any brakes.
I also pulled one rear wheel off that blew the air valve and didn't notice a bake.

There are NO front brakes.

Rear brakes are not behind the wheel like a car/truck. They are located in the transmission case.

If you're interested, you can see where they are located by navigating the illustrated parts on Kubota's webstire. Here's the link to get you started. https://apps.kubotausa.com/illustrated-parts/

Fortunately my Kioti came with a parking brake engaged light on the dash.

I did it a couple times on the M6040. Then I found a better way. Angle the grapple down and pin it on the ground. Drop the rear blade to the ground. There is no way you will move the tractor without lifting both.

My L3700 hydro screams like a wounded mongoose if I try to move with the parking brake set. There must be differences in Parking Brake effectiveness?

What there really is are differences in how much foot pressure is applied to the pedals when the brake is set. If the brake is not firmly set it is easy for an untrained or careless operator to overpower the brake with the engine.

Oosik, does your 6040 have a "brake on" indictor light? Mine does not

Keep in mind that "mongoose screaming" will also vary by which "range" gear you are in. With the highest screaming in HI and the lowest amount of screaming and brake effectiveness in the LO range.

I did get a kick out of your description :)

While having a brake warning light is helpful, extending the parking brake handle has made it delightful. While similar in design, the locking handle direction is opposite of the M59. Really screws with muscle memory. Also the ergonomics of the B26 is off. Maybe because I’m older, bigger and not as flexible the parking brake was hard to set. Bending over while pushing the brake pedals then pushing down the catch lever to find a notch is poorly designed. Frequently getting on and off the tractor was a pain. Extending the handle up to the dash has been a blessing. Longer lever arm gives better body position and allows fingertip control to feel the locking ratchet. Operator sets the brake more firmly thus less likely operating with the brake on. Also gives another quick visual indication of brake status at the dash level. If I had to choose between either the warning light or the handle modification, I would choose the latter every time. Both improve the operation and safety.
