Sorry about the new thread on mostly the same subject as "Sounds Expensive", but I am on the fence about running my HST until it quits or getting it repaired right now.

The dealer said that I could run the machine until the trans dies with no further damage. My very mechanical father in law mentioned that it could damage a housing or more and result in even more expensive repairs.

Opinions, anyone?

Thanks guys!

I'd get it fixed - I'm assuming it's at the dealer now - why bother to transport again? Also it could quit at an inopportune time creating an inconvenient situation at best, dangerous situation at worst - freewheeling down some hill perhaps?

More than likely what they are running on is that when it is replaced the whole assembly will be changed out. If it is, then there wouldn't be any more damage unless it was to the pump. I would ask the dealer if the entire assembly would be changed out when it fails.

Ya also gotta worry about contamination (metal stuff) throughout the system if/when it disintegrates. I don't recall if the FEL/3PH is a separate pump system, but if it works off the HST pump, you probably don't want any contamination floating around and ruining something else.

I'd fix it now, and make sure you understand how they flush the system.......

As a diesel mech. for 35 years I still don't understand why they [the dealer] don't want to disasemble it and see whats wrong before just throwing a new one in its place. As stated before these bx's don't have a problem with hst to amount to anything in the past. What if the hst failed because their was a oil restriction somewhere or some other problem other than the hst.I guess what I'm saying is sometimes the part that fails is not always the problem. If I were you I be asking why they want to just replace it with no atempt at repairing it how can they now what happen in there without looking inside it?.Do they know want caused the failure and can assure you it won't happen again. Assure is not the same as garrentee. I for one still like to see things repaired if possilbe, but understand that with todays labor and parts prices sometimes the whole unit is less expensive. Some folks get into the habit of throwing it away much to early before they even know whats wrong the unit, as there is just as much profit in that whole unit and a LOT less time.Either way I would get it repaired asap.Good luck hope this helps in some way
