Royal Crown Cola Diet

Gale, I've been drinking diet drinks ever since they were sweetened with saccharin. Remember when the restaurants used to have a bottle of liquid saccharin sitting on the table for tea? Diet Coke is generally my favorite, but I also like diet Dr. Pepper, diet root beer, diet ginger ale, diet. . . well, you get my drift. I don't even like the taste of sugar sweetened beverages anymore. I think my two favorite unsweetened beverages are tonic water and plain soda water (seltzer). Tonic water and a lemon slice makes an excellent summer drink, wet, bitter, and very thirst quenching. I've been on a diet all my life and my recommendation is that you increase your intake of vegetables dramatically and cut out all the meat you can. I'm not talking about mashed or fried potatoes when I say veggies. I mean beans, soups, and veggies that don't have a lot of butter or creme sauces on them. Try to cut out bread also. Shoot for 1000 calories a day and work downwards toward 850. You'll drop weight like crazy.

Heave up two 40 lb bags of deer corn on each shoulder. That's what it's like to be 80 lb overweight.

if you have arthritis.. stop the cola.. look into some things like cinnamon too. natural anti inflamatory. just don't overdo it on regular store bought cin. only 2grams max a day.. as it can cause liver toxcicity to a small degree. On the other hand.. if you get the tru ceylon/zelon cinnamon.. it is much, much, much easier on the liver..

omega oils can help with inflamation. anything that helps with circulation ( general heart and vein health ) will be good.. keeps fluids drained. horse chestnut.. astraxanthan..etc..

I use ceylon cinnamon - helps. I give it to my arthritic horse (knee) and it keeps her going.

x2 on the cinnamon. I use it in my coffee every day. Boosts metabolism and helps with arthritis.

I try to limit sodas to one can per week.

Pancreatic Cancer Linked to Sodas?

rekees4300 that was a very good link you posted.

Merritt Wellness Center - YouTube

This doctor from TX ready spells out how cancer and other conditions come about from consuming too many carbs over a period of time. She is easy to understand to my ears but she may be from the south too. :)

I did not know high carbs are required for cancer to develop and spread or how dangerous low fat diets are to living long and without dementia.

Some where over the last month my craving for Royal Crown Cola when away and I realized I had forgot to grab a good swig of RC for about two weeks. She covered why. We crave carbs because we are eating too many. When we stop over eating carbs over time. Be best I understand over eating carbs is the main cause of type II diabetics.

If anyone knows of anyone dealing with cancer, heart attacks, etc I strongly suggest you watch this doctor's five short youtube clips on the causes and what/when we eat protects/puts us at risk for deadly health conditions. She is not marketing any products but gets some common sense info without so much medical terminology.

Well the craving for RC Cola, Pepsi, etc has left as well as for cakes, pies and other items with added sugar. I do eat fruit that naturally contains sugar. Have read if you crave carbs that is because you are eating too many. Leaving off processed foods has helped my pain level drop off the radar to the point it does not define my life.

The plus side is 20 pounds of the 75 I am going to loose before spring are gone and body/mind strength and stamina is several times greater.

Getting rid of the sodas, regular or diet, makes a HUGE difference in cravings and weight. Congrats on the first 20! Good luck for the rest of it too!

Gale, I'm thrilled to hear that you are making such good progress. It doesn't take many pounds to mean the difference between huffing and puffing at the top of stairs or being able to climb them with ease. 30 to 50 lb is a major amount. Anytime you need to find out what you've lost, just stop by Tractor Supply and lift a few bags of feed. You'll wonder how you ever walked around with that much extra weight. Success is the greatest motivator, and you seem to be having lots of it. Good for you!

Thanks farmgirl and Jim. When I told some that I was going to loose 75 they just laughed but that was good. :)

After being in that July hot hay loft for the first time in 44 years reality kicked in that 75 pounds I gained since having both hips replaced in 1991 had to go. It will take time but just loosing the first 20 pounds is SO awesome and encourages me to work my way down over time.

Gross is what gets my attention the best so I envisioned myself wearing a jump suit with 15 pockets on it with each one holding a 5 pound bag of sugar and me walking around looking like that.

15 bags of sugar worn externally would get a lot of laughs I am sure. Well I am now only mentally wearing 11 bags. :)

Some state make small goals but that never worked for me over the years.

I am convinced I can eat well and just leave off stuff with added sugar and loose the weight over time. The arthritis pain is still there when I think about it but getting up and down is much easier already because I am also building muscle as I get stronger. Thankfully I do not need meds for any conditions and I hope to keep it that way.Next March I will have just turned 63 so I am working to see the last 55 pounds is gone by then.

When starting out at 250 every pound lost seems great. :) I can not believe how gross sugar has become in my mind. Weigh loss is not natural for me. I had to cut one very stressful relationship with a neighbor. Once I got that abuse stopped that helped so much. In my case weight gain has always been associated with external stresses too. I am finally learning external things that hurt my family in any way can be chopped off if one is willing.

One thing that helped me to see the light were two guys older than me recently had to go into a nursing home just because they were too large for the family to handle at home. We do not know what today will bring so getting prepared by being lighter is a good thing. :)

Gale, great job at recognizing the issue and doing something about it. I too am overweight (and I am having issues). I am slowing changing what I eat and reducing the amounts. I have just starting using the total gym (starter workout) and hope to be able to get the weight off.

I have struggled with obesity all of my life...
I have lost and gained weight like many but will continue the fight until the day I die...
At one time I was 400#...
I am now 300#...
The last diet that I went on was Medifast and it worked great...
Only 1200 cal per day is rough though...
20 years ago I did the Optifast diet and lost down to 190...
The liquid part was easy but it is not healthy to go down to 400 cal per day...
I count everything that goes into my mouth now...
With my sedentary job I only need around 1800 to 2000 calories per day but I want to eat more...
I have no issues with cholesterol or sugar but do have arthritis from old football injuries...
Thus...
I need to lose another 100#...
Mind over matter...
Grilled and broiled over fried...
Limit carbs and eat veggies...
We all know the remedies...
It ain't easy...

As I stated before I am on a 1500 calories pre day intake.. eat what I want or drink what I want.. but I don't go over 1500,, most day is less,, I lose about 1 pound an week,, maybe three pounds a month.. I 'm taking it off the same way I put it on.. slowly over a period of a few years..if I cheat I pay the next three days.:D. good luck to anyone that is trying to get rid of extra baggage's.:). Lou

From what I can read 1500 is about as low as an man should go day in and day out. One chart estimated I was burning 2800 base on a typical schedule. It that burn rate I would have a net burn of 1300 a day. If a pound of fat lost equals 3500 calories then I would look about 2 pounds a week.

When I am hungry and there is only candy in reach it still gets my attention so I try not to let that happen. Sticking to not eating/drinking things with added sugar is working for me so far. Still there are weeks when I really do not loose any weight then I will drop about five pounds over the next couple weeks.

Folks I had a REAL craving for something like the RC, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper. I do think knowing I could have four oz each morning was helpful in my case. After a few weeks I just started to forget to hit the frig for a slug so I stopped buying more. There is still several sources in the kitchen but I do not want them either. The rest of the family is happy I do not mess with their drinks. Before I was always wiping out the daughter's stash of ice cream. Heck I would open a can of sweet pie filling to get sugar. :(

The thought of wearing 15 five pound bags of sugar in pockets on a jump suit does work for me. At the end if sugar was not so expensive I would do it to show it is now on the outside and not inside of me. :)

I switched from Pop-Tarts to oatmeal or Cheerios for breakfast.
I switched my 9:00am donut to a banana.
I switched my 4-5 pops a day to one pop a day in the morning and refill the pop bottle with water the rest of the day.
Guess what? My cholesterol went back to normal and I lost 12 pounds in a couple months.
I think its rocket science.

Next on my list.... the dreaded physical activity!
