No...it's just proof nuts aren't that difficult to remove!
Weld an old box end wrench onto that rounded off one. From then on it could be removed without tools.
Now only 3 replies to go...another landmark.

Getting a new drainplug hasnt occurred to you?

He doesn't need a new drain plug...yet.
He needs to remove his old one first, and that could require 1388 posts on how to do it!

Tomorrow is a bigger pipe wrench. Option after that will be either welding a nut over the plug, or cut the plug off flush and either using an extractor or drilling it out.

Did your buddy bring a service/tool truck? How many days is he/she staying?

I still vote for welding a new heavy pattern hex nut on it. If the stuck plug is malleable iron pipe plug he'll have to bronze weld it on. Low and behold, the heat from welding and it is now only finger tight.

I agree. Warming it up with a torch would have been the second or third thing I tried. I THINK way earlier in the thread some * members voiced concerns with heat or open flame around an oil pan. I wouldn’t have any hesitation applying heat carefully.
