Kando, now that you have absorbed all these solutions I think you are the perfect solver of my similar problem. The work light on my drill press is broken and I can't budge that bulb base no matter what I try. Tried broom handle, channel locks, needle nose plies, collapsing the walls, super glue a dowel in there. Nothing works. Here is a picture. DSCN0018.JPG

Not enough remaining suitable material for a pipe wrench. :confused3:

You might try collapsing the light bulb socket and removing it. Or you could just cut the whole thing out and put a new light bulb base in for like $2.

I've taken several of those bases out with needle-nosed pliers, grabbing and twisting a side to shrink the base a bit.

But I don't think they will work on a rounded-off drain plug.

Did you try using the needle-nose pliers like circlip pliers... open the needle-nose inside the screw base (on two inner sides) and twist?

And I take it that it is a screw in base, not a bayonet base. It looks like a screw base.

Naturally via the 'Go Fund Me' collection that will gather more donors than posters on this discussion (?).

Manufacturer of the tool that solves the problem! ???

As long as no Trump is involved there could be some funding left over for the winner.

jam a potato into the broken bulb socket. It should twist out.

Collapse the bulb base with a center punch or a small (1/4" or so) cold chisel in one spot until you have a large enough opening to get a needlenose jaw between the bulb and socket and collapse it some more? I am thinking using the needlenose sort of like a spam can key.

FWIW, I have heard of this happening more and more with bulbs galling in sockets, and at least one person suggested a small amount of oil smeared on the threads of every new bulb before installing.

What will the Army Corps of Engineers:flag-army: think if they hear a drain plug wupped a guy called Kando:m1helmet: then a light bulb stumped another called Seabee:flag-navy:? :stirthepot:

Aluminum bases in aluminum sockets.
