Rounded off drain plug

nuh-unh. little cheap inverter welders run off a light socket 15-20 amps. never popped a breaker with mine and it goes up to 200 amps. I agree if you've got to find a welder and a generator it gets to being a pain in the ***. I've never tried it, but has anyone ever seen people weld with a car battery? I bet you could stick that thing with a big battery, a jumper cable and one 6013 stick problem solved.
P=E x I that is, power = the voltage times the current. the maximum current a 120V outlet can carry is 20 amps, so, the maximum wattage is 2400 watts. so, I=P/E which is the power divided by the voltage= the current, so, 2400 watts/30 volts(arc voltage) =80 amps.. so.. 200 amp welders use 240 Volts at 66.6 amps to get a capability of 200 amps.. that's 80 volts x 200 amps=16,000 watts needed.. 16,000 watts/240 volts=66.6 amps on the line cord.. under an established arc, you do get less than 80 volts at the electrode though..

ow...ow...ow...mah head....did all dat rithmatick get the plug out???:confused2:

Now that school season is approaching will this saga make it into season two. Will there be a cliff hanger? Did the wrench quit monkeying around?

I'm sure not going to read thru 43 pages of comments but - - transmission or engine. Isn't the fill plug hole big enough to insert a small hose on an evacuation pump and pump the cavity dry.

I know its probably more inconvenient than removing the drain plug but - after 43 pages of comments and suggestions maybe its a lot easier to just forget the rounded off drain plug and go with some modification of the suggestion I've made.

Yeah, but I thought it was an interesting post following the math.

Seriously? :D

Two hours a night for 8 to 10 nights and you could knock those pages out of the park. :D

""dogs" - - that's kind of what I thought also - - two or three hours a night for 8 to 10 days. If I weren't dead by the end of that time of natural causes - that could well be the cause. Ha, ha, ha

It might have ended at post #450 but now it could turn out like that thread where some guy wanted to know how to calculate acreage in his round field. That thread went to over 1,000 post with people arguing over whether pie r square or if pie r round and cornbread r square. Got so nasty :muttering::duh::punch::banghead::talktothehand::fiery::eek: mods had to shut it down and lock it.

One day we're going to get an update and it will be Kando saying he has done. Have faith.

Pies are not always round, I have made rectangular pies in a cornbread pan. I missed that thread but that might be what confused everyone. :rotfl:

I think on this thread we should add the torque requirement of each solution and how much torque Kando can apply in each of the body positions each solution requires. Then we can also squabble over how to calculate available torque and required torque.

I think he's been out there tractoring for weeks, but when he returned to post that fact he read this and threw up his hands in defeat.
(or maybe De Feet, as Tatoo would have said.)

Hey, kudos to Kando for remaining a good egg through all this. Many (most) would have simply exited the thread, never to read TBN again.
Kando, maybe you could take all this information and write a book, make the best seller list and buy a brand new tractor with the proceeds.

With good old fool proof pitcocks and no stinking drain plugs.

Hello TBN,

Trying to change the fluids in my Ford 960 and ended up rounding off the head of the transmission drain plug. Haven't tried channel locks yet but I don't think it'll help. Beyond removing the plug, what could I use to replace it? Would a short bolt work? Looked through messicks and new Holland's parts but the plug itself seems to no longer exist.

I read the original post again and not sure if anyone answered the question of where to get a replacement drain plug. The original part number is likely obsolete but I'm near certain there is a replacement number. That's for starters. There is also an active aftermarket parts business for these tractors and it's an easy bet that replacements are out here. Search for it or ask for help if needed. Finally, there are tractor boneyards all over the place and many in the upper Midwest that would have the part as used. I'll bet that plug was used in models from the 1930'sto the 1960 and beyond. Ford was like that.
