Kioti CK25
I just changed oil in my Kioti CK25 and used the Rotella synthetic for the first time. I was impressed with the immediate difference in the ease with which it turned over, with temps in the 20's, compared to the standard Rotella 15W-40.

So since I bought 2 gallons and have a couple quarts left over, and I have a snow blower on the GT245 garden tractor (20 hp. air-cooled kawasaki, pressurized) that I'll be using all winter, is there any reason not to change it over to synthetic as well?

Thanks. -WSJ

Simple test - If it meets or exceeds the API requirements listed in the owners manual, no, there are no issues.

I run Rottella T 5w-40 synthetic in both my tractors.
I also use the same oil in everything else. Our car, truck, garden tractors, push mowers, walk behind tiller, generator, Etc.Etc.

going from any 15w-40 to any 5w-40 will show/feel big changes.

That gas engine probably specs 5W30 or 10W30. It would be OK if meeting the API requirement, But not the best choice for maximum fuel economy. A lot of gas engine oils have friction modifiers that the Rotella 5W40 may not have.

Hmmm. This oil thing is addictive, even if you're ignorant like me. I guess maybe I'll stick with my old stand-by Castrol for the JD and save the synthetic for the Kioti. I believe I will try the synthetic in my cheapie Craftsman air compressor.

Thanks all for the insight. -WSJ

WSJ,

What are you afraid of?

I use Mobil 1 in ALL my engines. Most use 5w30, including my JD diesel. My old Benz specs 10w40; so, I try to use 5w40 Mobil 1 when I can get it or blend 5w30 and 15w50 50/50 available all the time. In the old Gravely that I no longer have, I'd put either 15w50 or 0w40 (when I could get it). It actually quit using oil after the 2nd or 3rd change on Mobil 1.

By the way, Castrol doesn't make a drop of oil. They had been buying from Exxon. They do develop their own additive pack.

I have been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles since 1983 and will continue to do so. I plan on changing over to Rotella 5W-40 synthetic on my B7800 when I break the engine in. I also use Mobil 1 in all my other 4 cycle engines, i.e., lawn blower, snow blower, 1989 Wheelhorse, etc.

I ran Mobil 1 5W-30 in my old John Deere GT225 (15hp single cylinder Kohler) with great results. I would think you would see (hear) a quieter and cooler running engine with the synthetic.
