I think you would agree it is not bent or warped from original shape.
Not really. But the important thing is that you're satisfied. Nice lookin' old Yanmar by the way.

Greg said it best, that if you're satisfied, that's all that counts.
Good job on changing the angle the angle to 5 degrees. I'm sure, regardless of the angle on the forks, that your tail wheel will respond much better when reversing and turning. Thanks for sharing your project!

I like your re-design/re-weld to alleviate the problem.

Another possibility is to raise the front pivot position of the bar carrying the tail wheel.

Tried to add a sketch to your pic to illustrate adding a column at the front, to make the tail wheel pivot shaft vertical.

Beenthere,
I considered raising the front area but thought it might weaken things to much. The picture doesn't reveal it but the front where it bolts to the deck is appx 12" wide and tapers to the wheel spindle where it end up about 2-1/2" or so. All that is solid top and bottom and has tremendous strength whether hitting something sideways or straight back. I back into some pretty big stuff sometimes. Raising that area would definitely change the angle. Thanks again guys for all comments.

Here's a tail wheel tip for future use. I've replaced the bearings on the tail shaft of my old bush hog several times over the years. I kept them greased but the design/load/shock just wouldn't work for extended periods. Last time I tried a new approach. I found a scrap piece of PVC pipe that was a near perfect fit for the tailwheel shaft. With a little milling I inserted a 3" section in each end of the sleeve. Serrated the end cut on one end so the the center grease fitting would always be open. Drilled a new hole to snug the shaft collar and pumped it full of synthetic greese. That was 10 yrs ago and it's dang close to as snug now as then.
