Can someone recommend a 3-point rotary mower for my B7500? I have a thick grove of oak trees with heavy underbrush, and I would like to keep the underbrush mowed down so the kids can run and play. Ideally, I would like a medium duty one, 48", that can take down at least one-inch material, if not more. I am finding that most of the medium duty ones are 60". What is the best one that my B7500 can still handle? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My Cub Cadet 7234 has a 20 hp PTO and I've been using a 60" King Kutter for years. I used it to clear lots with trees up to about 1.5" diameter . It also powers a 72" Woods finish mower. If I'm correct, the B7800 has a 22hp PTO, so you should have enough power, but your Kubota weighs about 800 lbs less than the Cub. So you buy a 60" rotary mower, you might think about having some addtional weight on the front of the tractor (i.e. FEL) for when you raise the mower.

Oops! Dyslexia strikes again! I thought you had a B7800 instead a B7500.

Bush Hog brand stuff says up to 1" and 42" or 48" is the size range you want to stay in.

I have a B7300 16hp, 12.5 PTO hp and I run a 48" Modern brushhog and it works great! I think that the Modern's are built quite a bit heavier than a lot of brands and they don't carry the high price tag of say a Rhino. Mine is galvanized which I think is a great option and only cost about $60 more than a painted version.

I used a 4' KK on the back of my 7500 and probably chopped through some stuff that was close to 1" if not 1", Sumac, so not the toughest saplings in the world. Quite a few tops of some bowling ball sized rocks, though and never sheared a pin. After I had cleared my land from the 4-5' high stuff, I was wishing I had a 5' model to keep it groomed down. It's amazing how much more quickly you can get done with the extra foot of width and I know the B7500 would have handled it at that point.
I think it all depends on how fast you want or can travel, the angle and height you adjust the brush hog, how often you want to brush hog and how low you want to keep your underbrush...
I used the heck out of that 4' KK and it worked and looked like new.

When I bougt my Land Pride 60" cutter (cutter, not mower!), it was for use behind a Deere 670. This tractor is quite comparable to a Kubota B7500 with 19 gross HP and 16 HP @ the PTO.

I was looking for a 48" unit, but the dealer (a Kubota dealer in York, PA) said they sold the 60" units for use with 7500's frequently.

Although I was skeptical, I was pleasently surprised how well the 670 worked with the cutter.

Anyway...that's the story...

I use a landpride 1542, no problem cutting vegetation up to 1 inch.

Lots of good suggestions - thanks. I've been searching through the archives -- it seems that some rotary cutters are a pain to get fitted to the B7500. Two more questions: 1.) For everyone who replied with a brand/size of rotary cutter, which ones could be hooked up right from the dealer without making any modifications to the cutter? 2.) What are you guys using to limit the 3 pt lift arms to stop the front of the cutter at the correct cutting height? I have the 54" MMM, which has a stop arm mounted to the 3pt and several adjustment holes to limit the drop of the rear 3 pt arms, but I don't know if it is made to handle the weight of a rotary cutter. The MMM weighs quite a bit less than the rotary cutter. I don't know anything about the 3pt limiting "check chains" -- are you using them?
