Massey Ferguson 1835M
In February, I purchased a new MF 1835M and traded my trusty old MF1540. The new 1835 is a bigger and wider machine and seems to have plenty of power. I have had a Woods BB60X rotary for quite some time I bought new and is in excellent condition and cuts very well. The problem is that the 1835 with the rear wheels set at the widest setting (for stability using the grapple and on slopes), I am not able to cover my tire tracks and getting a strip left that requires overreaching with the mower on the next pass. The tractor is a Power Shuttle and shows a PTO HP of 27.8. However, the tractor so far seems to have an abundance of PTO HP, seems even stronger than my previous 1540 that had a PTO HP rating of 32. I am thinking that I could step up to a 6ft mower and be ok. Something like the Bush Hog 216 or Woods 72.30 (don't really want a standard duty mower). The problem is I really like my current BB60X and don't want to sell and step up to the 72in and not be happy or overwork my tractor. Most all of my cutting is field grass that is well maintained and very little reclaiming work if any. It's hard to justify the expense of a new rotary mower when I have a perfectly good one. But if it would be a better fit producing better results, well then I feel it may be worth it. I could sell my BB60 and only come out of pocket for may $1000-1200 bucks, but that's still money spent.

Anyone with any similar real world experience, please fill me in!

Thanks

About the only thing I would suggest is seeing how far left or right your three point will allow it to swing.

I agree... if you only need a few inches - push to one side - keep using the tool you like and keep your buckolas in your pocket.. I have a feeling with the cost of things going up, we all will need any extra we have!
