I do have a FEL so front weight would not be an issue. However, sounds like everyone recommends a light duty 4'. Thanks much guys for all the feedback.

If you use a 5' mower you will be shopping for a new pto shaft sooner than later. The 1510 has a weakness for snapping off pto shafts, I have 3 parts tractors & thats the first thing that sold on all 3.

I would use a 42" mower like LMTC advised.

I haven't seen any cutters under 4'. Do any of you know who makes a 42" one? Also, the one I was looking at was King Kutter. Does anyone have an opinion on that brand?

I have a 186D which puts out about 14 hp to the pto. I run a 4' KingKutter and it works real well. The three point frame work on the KingKutter will bend if you back into something too stiff. The KK wil handle grass over my head but you have to go slow. Fortunately Yanmars are geared to go slow. I have been able to bushhog anything I can run over. Football sized rocks are scarey as they rumble around inside the cutter then launch out across the field. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif One of my favorite things is to knock back overgrown wild roses with the kk. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny you should mention overgrown wild roses. I have a gigantic one outside my old barn that I have never known what to do with! At one point it had grown all the way to the top of the hayloft, like 35 feet! Of course it is a menace to cut with all those huge prickers. Somehow though I would think that thing is too much for my tractor. May have to get a neighbor with an ag tractor to go after that.

I have a 1602D with a 4' Howse and an FEL. The Howse would cut anything I tried and I had no problem lifting it or feeling like it was controlling the tractor. One other suggestion, if you don't already have one, invest in an overrunning clutch for your PTO, otherwise the mower will "push" the tractor when you're trying to stop it till the blade winds down........

I have an Agritech 48" on my 1500D. The weights are approx the same for the tractors and I also too have a FEL. You will find it bouncy with the cutter weigh extented out that far from the rear wheels. Have contemplated throwing something in the FEL but did not want to tax the hydraulics as the cutter I have weighs alot. With the hills in my area, I would say I am operating at a maximum and would not let anyone else use my setup. I think lighter is better in this case.
