LS XR3140HC
I have a XR3140HC and trying to get it out of 4 wheel into 2 wheel drive. Manual says depress clutch and push down on the selector on the floor for 2 wheel / 4 wheel.

Well I have hydrostatic so no clutch and the lever wont push down at all to select 2 wheel drive, dont want to force anything etc etc.

Any body else had this issue?

Thanks

Sometimes gently changing direction of travel while trying to disengage works.

It might be hard to shift into/out of 4WD if there is pressure on the gears. Try it on level ground where the tractor isn't trying to roll. Or try moving the tractor back and forth a little bit first. Or try putting the range selector in neutral first.

Try slowly rolling back and forth or lift the front end with the loader.

You need to balance the tire pressures so you are not wrapping the drive train up. Often we find that rear industrial tires only need about 12 lbs. Any more and you wind up with the problem you are having.

This.
Also if you have an FEL you can raise front tires off ground to "unbind".
Another technique is when rolling slowly, give the "go" pedal (hydro pedal, or throttle if gear driven) a tap then quickly release; at the same time push the 4WD selector lever at that sweet spot when the tractor is neither accelerating or decelerating when there's no tension in the drive lines and it should pop right out (or in) 4WD.

jack it up off the ground with the bucket and slightly tap the forward reverse pedal

I may be asking a supid question, but I am unfamiliar with the XR series. Is the 4wd lever actually on the floor? All the XG series have a "hand lever" for 2wd/4wd, the diff lock is on the floor. Am I learning something new?

Yes the lever is on the floor next to the diff lock. It would be nice if it were on the console.

The 4wd lever is a bugger as you found out. The easiest way to get it to to engage or disengage is on the move.

Agreed! Just don’t do it while you’re tires are spinning or if you’re under load.

Well just an update......put it on a slope in neutral and let it roll a bit...held the brakes then popped it in and out of 4 wheel 2 wheel. Sure would be nice to have a light stating what it is in.

But yes it is really a pain to get change from 2/4 wheel

If it's a new tractor - should get easier with use.
