I used metal conduit and shade cloth for the front. Maybe you could do the same for over your backhoe. I use 3/4 inch conduit as a mount and hammer a section flat so it does not rotate and the 1/2 conduit slides in and i drilled a hole and put in a screw on each so they stay in place. the 1/2 inch conduit has a 90 degree bend and I hammered the ends and drilled holes so there is a cross piece to keep the shade cloth spread out.

I'd go down to the JD dealer and buy one of their umbrellas. Inexpensive, 50 years of development, adjustable, heavy canvas. Hard to brsy. It even comes with all the nuts and bolts, ball joint and a tripod stand.
