Rolling and Arresting Floor Mounted Drill Press Base.

Has anyone seem such a thing?

I have very little room in my shop and have recently developed a little alcove perfect for my floor mounted drill press to reside. But no room to tilt it and walk it out, when I wish to use it. Which is OFTEN!

Does anyone make a base with wheels that lower and raise? Using compressed air would be great.

Just thinking, would an air cusion work? Basically a hovercraft!

How about just installing it on a base with small casters? That's how I move my generator around.. Bought it at tractor supply for $20..

Not great for something that (in use) has to be stable and solid AND is top heavy!

Yeah, not for something that top heavy.

Can't help you OP, mine is bolted to the concrete floor.

I would kind of like to try the air cusion, just don't know how big to make it. I don't really like the idea of blowing dust around though.

Curious if there is anything special to the last one. I realize that I am limited to parking space in my little alcove. I can't go much bigger than the original base.

Castors often have levers as brakes, but are there none with levers to raise and lower them?

Looks like it has fixed wheels in the back and a caster that flips up and down in the front. Then the front corners have rubber "feet" so they don't move.

VERY interesting. That could be easy to do. I don't know how they activate their front castor but a jack type lever could easily accomplish that. Could even put a D handle on it, pull it forward lowering the single castor and pull the thing out.
