The other day I was going to use to cutter. When I went to engage the button it turned freely but broke. I heard peices of it fall behind the panel. I've order a new one but the tractor will not start now. I would assume that it thinks the PTO is engaged. Any tips to get it started so I can move it?

If you go ahead and take the panel off to get access to the switch, it is probably just 2 wires in which case they are either electrically connected or disconnected by the switch. More than likely turning PTO on connects the 2 wires.

Long story short, pull the wires from the switch

I do not believe I can do that. My plug has 4 wires soldered to the bottem of it. I dont know what wires are what and I dont know if I should remove them from the pins.

Since you plan to replace the switch anyway disconnect it as you would to do so and then see if you can move it. Hopefully it's just a plug you can pull away from the switch. If that doesnt work then that switch is not just connecting wires but also disconnecting wires. If it were me and simply unplugging doesnt work I would take a look at the contacts in the switch to determine what is happening connection wise and replicate with a small piece of wire/s. Be sure to get it right though if you do this. Come to think of it probably 2 of those wires are just for the indicator light. I really think disconnecting the switch will do the job

It sounds like it's not simply unplug and replug in the new switch but requires soldering?. Your not going to hurt anything by disconnecting the wires as long as you dont let them touch each other or any metal of the tractor. Maybe there is a plug at the other end of the wires opposite the switch?
If you end up having to unsolder/resolder. Make sure to write down th orientation of the wires and take a photo of the connector first

Also I have seen a wiring diagram of at least one model RK mentioned in these forums so they exist however I don't know if they will clearly tell what wires actually need to connect/disconnect for the PTO to disengage

There must be a connector in the harness somewhere. I can't believe something like that would be hardwired and soldered in. Maybe a parts diagram somewhere would show the item?

Is this under Warranty?

I agree. Maybe not a plug at the switch but down stream from the switch if the wires are soldered to the back.
The switch almost got to have a wire harness on it with a plug at the end..

I would think it would have to be, RK hasn't been selling them very long! If I pushed a control on a new tractor and something fell off behind the dash and prevented the tractor from starting, you can bet it would be a priority warranty issue for the dealer.

RK has been fairly responsive here on TBN, so bring it to their attention. Being able to quickly deal with a problem like this is kind of important for their business model to succeed.

Wouldn't you jumper the pins (if necessary) rather than disconnect the soldered wires from the socket?

One could make a W.A.G. and say it's probably 2 switches (4 wires). One switch turns on/off the pto clutch, the other switch might be the safety interlock that is preventing the start.
Guessing even more: The PTO clutch portion of the switch would work as follows: open contacts/wires not connected = PTO OFF, closed/wires connected=ON;
but how the safety interlock (preventing starting) portion of the switch works is a guess at this point (maybe open contacts/wires = don't start, closed=ok?). Or it's opposite.

This is why you want the electrical diagram to know what wires are what, and whether to (temporarily) jumper the switch/wires or leave them open.
