Sad to report this :

KINGWOOD -- A Preston County man is dead after being struck Thursday evening by a pickup truck while crossing the highway on a lawn tractor. The driver of the mower 63, died after being hit by a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, The truck that hit him left the scene of the accident. The driver of that truck was later identified as a 18yr old.

The Preston County Sheriff's Department is still investigating.

Went to school with him he will be missed. Sorry for the both of the families

Very sad to hear this.

I'll keep the family in my thoughts & Prayers!

I don't know how this young teenager thought that he would get away with this.

I'm going with "the kid freaked out and drove off".... I seriously doubt it was anything beyond that.

Sorry for the both the families. :(

From what I heard today and only hear say.
The boy went home appx 1 1/2 miles to tell parents what happened.
Then they went back to the accident scene.
Either way for both families it has to be rough!!!!!!!!

My understanding is he was crossing the road. Don't know if he had been mowing across from his house or going over to mow. Its a secondary road that he lived on
About a 1 mile from the interstate with local traffic a couple of small business's on the road

I 'd like to know the answer to that one too.

I have 80 acres along county road speed limit posted as 45 mph. When bushhogging fence row along the road Frequently see a car coming before can stop and let the bushhog unwind the vehicle has passed and gone on down the road.
Lights flashing and large green tractor they seldom change lanes to allow more room. I can see how some one crossing the road can be hit. it is hard to hold a large cold drink, dial the cell phone and watch for "idiots" along side of road at same time.
He didn't cross thinking he would be hit. Just wasn't seen.

Something I've wondered about-- if someone has an "accident", and doesn't have a method of communicating (like a cell phone), what is the recommended process to follow if there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic or houses around?

If you are leave it is almost certainly a violation of the law. If you stay I don't know of a statue that says you have to leave to get help much less actually help the victim(s).

If it was ME, I could do nothing for the victim(s) at the scene and help was not likely to arrive unless I went to call 911 then I would leave, make the call, and return. I might get dinged by the officer but given that there is a 911 recording and I returned I SHOULD not be faced with a conviction for leaving the scene of an accident. SHOULD and CONVICTION are key words. :)

This is one of those events where one has to understand that no matter what YOU do someone will d...n what you did. So YOU have to do what YOU think is right and what YOU can live with. In other words follow YOUR own CONVICTIONS and d..n the other convictions. :D

Later,
Dan
