Review of 4500

Who makes the engine on the 4500? Is there any other tractors in the Mahindra lineup that has the same engine manufacturer?

I bought the tractor from a neighbor who is a full time fireman going through a divorce. It had 48 hours. I don't know how the firemen around you maintain their equipment, but here it is a top priority. (as with most if not all departments).

A new engine cannot be maintained poorly withinthe 1st 48hrs unless you ignore some serious problem caused by damage or omission in manufacturer set up. Your problem was a manufacturing defect that showed up as soon as the tractor actually had to do some work.

Sorry to hear that. I figured Mahindra would have given you an answer one way or another by now. After your experience I'm checking all the fluids on my new Mahindra 5525 (35 engine hours so far) before each use.

With you not buying the tractor from a dealer. Buying it second hand from someone who knowbody knows how he treated the tractor. The tractor being out of warranty.Then letting it set for months out in some field. I'd say you were lucky to get anything from Mahindra.
Also someone posted how this could happen so quickly.
Lets say the front of the radiator was plum full of dirt, completely stopped up, then let us say the engine got real hot, until it blew a head gasket,antifreeze got it the oil( the oil pickup on that modle tractor in right on the bottom of the pan) then it was lubracating with antifreeze instead of oil, didn't take long until the antifreeze wiped out the rod bearings, thus creating a knock, then a rod failure, that is how it could happen!

My dealer got the letter for me to sign friday, the short block and gaskets are on the way.

New short block has arrived and is in the shop now. Hope to have it finished this week or next.
Heads, injectors, and top end looked good. Just the rod caps bad. Must have been a Monday or Friday assembly! Recovering from the weekend or looking forward to it and didn't torque them down.
Sure did need it this week, road into the house looked like a streambed after all the rain we had. Old Massey fixed it up though, sure glad I kept that old tractor.

Glad to see things are now moving forward for you. I've been keeping up with your thread/discussion for a while now.

...But you started this thread alittle over six months ago (6/30/08). There has been PLENTY OF TIME for Mahindra and the "dealer" resolve this issue.

I have owned a Mahindra in the past and wish I never would have sold it. And I would absolutely buy another one- no doubt.
But this disappoints me to read this FOR AS LONG AS IT'S BEEN GOING ON.

I know of a Mahindra dealership a ways away from me that would not let this "dragg out" like this. Its where I bought my used Mahindra from (and man I miss that tractor).

The nightmare continues! The "complete" gasket set was not complete, the short block is different from the original. My dealer has had to order new hoses and gaskets since some components are located in different areas on this block, and not all the gaskets are included.
Makes me wonder if this is the new version of the engine.
Brautigam's are doing their best, and I appreciate all they have gone through trying to help me.
Would I buy another Mahindra?
