Reversed Rims On The PT-425

My thought is you have the same lever arm regardless of rim direction, in the standard position it to the inside. So the torque on the bearings would be the same if with the lever arm to the inside or the outside. To fully convince myself and maybe others I'll see if I can put together a CAD diagram for everyone to debate. It's been very busy at work lately so it may not be until next week.

Yes, the lever length would be the same for each scenario, but what are your chance of driving the inside edge of both wheels onto different planes VS driving the outside edges of both wheels onto different planes? Much greater with the outside edge situation, I would think.

Gettin' a little complicated, there, MossRoad. You're talking about torque around the horizontal fore and aft axis of the wheel, which is one kind of load analysis. If you draw a horizontal line from the outer bearing to the outer edge of the tire, however, the longer the lever, the more the load when the outer edge of the tire climbs. Probably simpler analysis, and leads to conclusion that wider means more potential bearing load. Charlie I agree with you. I would like to add some more.
The people at PT have probably looked at the possibility of reverse rims. They made the wheels that way, keeping within the parameters of the wheel motors. I don't think any of their manuals even suggest that you might reverse the rims for extra stability. Sure, you can go ahead and reverse them, but consider this. If your machine is under warranty and you reverse the rims and post pictures of same. guess what, they will void your warranty . Out of warranty, go for it if you feel the need. Another point, reverse wheels on the front, while picking up max load. nay nay I say

It all comes down to what you need or want!! The safest thing is to not use your PT at all for the first year, just park it in the garage ! That way you can be sure that if anything happens, it will be covered by the warranty!!
I believe in "Use it, but don't abuse it!"!! If an improvement is needed, or desired, by YOU, it's up to YOU to decide if the usefulness outweighs the maybe's!!
I consider reversed wheels invaluable for MY uses on MY land! If this costs me something in the future, I will consider it money well spent!! If it doesn't, so much the better!! Not my PT!! It's too busy getting it's little reversed wheels run off getting jobs done I didn't even know needed doing!!!! (87 hours since 2/4 with no snow plowing or grass cutting!)
