Now this is wierd. After 37 years, I've checked out of work to become a full-time house-husband. Can't decide what to do 1st - - there's so much I put off till I could get to it. No more excuses, I guess.

Betcha I can stay busy - - & happy. Sure glad I bought the tractor back in April '03.

Suggestion : Make a list before she does if its not too late, And check something of everyday so it looks like your getting something done /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just kidding ENJOY! For me it will probably take some getting used to ,But I can't think about it yet just day dream... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Tdog that is great news, congratulations. Most of my friends that have retired find themselves busier than when they were working. Splurge and buy yourself something new for the tractor. After 37 years you deserve a new toy.

Hey, congratulations! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm about 10 months behind you. Looks like my last day will be 7/14/05. WOOHOO!

A good friend retired a little over a year ago. He's a house husband now too. He said that he'd read that a person should take the first year off just to see how things go and get used to the changes. Then you can go out and decide if you want to take on a part time job, or whatever. I know that he's become a Food Newtworkaholic! He does all the cooking, since his wife still works. So he watches all of these food shows, and when he sees a recipe he likes, he logs onto the website to get the ingredients and recipe. Then he goes to the store and gets all the goodies so that he can have a fancy meal all ready when the wife gets home. I keep telling him to knock it off, or all of his friends wives (meaning mine! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) will expect me to do that! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Oh what the heck, I can open a can soup as well as the next guy I guess! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm about 6 1/2 years ahead of you, and retirement is great. Just that there are no days off, and I think I work harder and keep busier (couldn't find the time to go to work, for sure) than when I worked. Happy to be retired.
I don't accept any to-do lists from anyone else, but have a few in mind all the time for myself.
Enjoy your free time (if you find any /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ). Taking a break while my shed doors are being installed, and I'm trying not to hover over the installer so he doesn't get too nervous. Then that leaves the windows, doors, siding and trim left for me to do, and after that the shelves and storage, along with the electric to put in.
Then there is the landscaping to do, and the grass seed to sow, and then return the 3pt tiller and Woods Gill pulverizer that I rented (for me, that pulverizer was a waste of time). In between, there is grass to mow, grand children to visit (volley ball games) and lunch for a fellow soon-to-be retiree. Whew. Enjoy!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Some days you will long for the 'restful' work environment with the security that it offers, and the excuse that it offers when you want to say 'no' to a project or committment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A good friend of mine suggested I reconsider retiring. When I asked him why I should do that, he said, "When you retire, you don't get paid vacations anymore." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I replied, "Gee, I hadn't thought about that! I may need to think about it some." ( count 2 beats ) "I thought about it. NOT!" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yea, retirement is great .... enjoy.

Everyone else is correct too, you stay as busy as you want to. There's just so much to do but you can still shut everything down and take a day or two off anytime you feel like it. You won't be bored. I guarantee it.

When I retired I stayed home for 15 months. Then I got to thinking that maybe I did miss work a little bit. So, I picked up a consulting job and went back to work for 4 months. I thought that that might a good way to do it, work for 3-4 months and then take the rest of the year off to play with the tractor. I did that for about 4 years but now have given up all pretence of working for a living. I love retirement and I'm sure you will too. If you have a tractor, your days will be full and enjoyable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jan 3, 2007 for me ... can't wait ..I guess I have about 10 years of work on my to do list just waiting for me to get the time. Hope I'll have the money. I've always said the secret is to have the time & money at the same time ... hasn't worked out for me as yet .. seems I had one or the other .. but not both.

Congratulations on your retirement. I hope that you get to enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine...

That is why my wife still works.... she enjoys the money... I enjoy the freedom. I cook occasionally, but since she is working and likes to go out, we usually go out for dinner a couple times a week with friends. The one thing that hasn't changed, is her calling in the middle of the day to see how I am doing. I think it is to make sure that I am working. I keep telling her that the things that I don't finish in my lifetime, her next husband can do for her in his. Ain't marriage and retirement great.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
PS... he will have to buy his own tractor...... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
