MOST small Kubota diesels are rated to 3,600 rpm's...

I'd go with the diesel without a second thought!

Depends if the chipper is being used as a hobby unit with up to 100hrs a year . Or is this chipper used 20-30 hrs a week all year long .

If your talking about the 625LR then you might be able to make up for the loss of engine RPM by installing a larger pulley on the engine or a smaller one on the chipper rotor shaft. They normally operate using a centrifugal clutch but you could put the engine on a large hinge and use a threaded rod and handle to add tension to the belts.

Here is a new Kubota 27 HP diesel. Probably not find one any cheaper as Surplus Center has very good prices.
