Are you talking about swapping engines?

sorry their repower projects ,I guess that is what preview post is for

Either way, I understood what you meant.

It doesn't seem to be something folk do with tractors - well, SOME probably do, but not a major activity among those with triple digit IQs.

Yes,changing engines is right I swapped a 1086 IHC from 414 to 436 out of 4166 IHC and Versatile 700 from the Cummins 555 to a Cat 3208 out of my NH1500 combine .I.Q. isn't much of a factor , imagination is the only limiting factor the rest is guts and cash to do it. I realize most of the discussion seems utility and yard tractor related so I may be off topic.

I am very interested in repowering compact tractors. The probelm is that everything on the tractors is so small and tight. The engine compartments are already packed and there is no wiggle room for a bigger engine.

OOOHH don't get me started....NH combine engine in a fordson major....Chev V8 in a fordson major ...Cat 3208 in a landrover...Perkins truck engine in a claas combine.....Detroit 671 to a Cummins 855 in a truck ..and more ...the time i have wasted HaHa.
Never seen a forum for this but i bet a look at tractor puller sites would come up with something...?
What is the repower you have in mind..?

What do you mean by "attempted", was there a degree of success at the end of some or all of the projects?

I have idly considered replacing the smokey IH D239 engine from the IH 75 Hydro of my Chisholm Ryder grape harvester.

Apart from the obvious changes to the front of engine mount (easy enough) I've no idea how one would go about mating the new (different) bell housing to the old transmission or even harder - making the transmission and pto splines compatible, not much room for adaptors there.

Do you have any pics of your repowers?

The 1086 was 100% successfull but that was staying in the same series engine just changed timing cover to accept a different engine mount I enjoy the extra 20hp or so on my pto combine. The Versatile 700 was 99.9% I have a bit of heating issue in hot weather can't say it is overloading I pull the same load as I had on my 1086.I had to buy a flywheel from a wrecker for a 3208 in Steiger and a fan mount from a MF1800 I modified the front mount from the 4166 engine I had a local mechanic fabricate a hydaulic pump mount with double belt drive and dual exhausts .The pump drives off the crankshaft with a double pulley .Only thing is I haven't located a tacometer cable long enough to reach from the front of the cat to the instrument panel.
Only pictures are on my phone don't know how to get them here.

Allenr ,Go to Redpower Magazine .com there are some very informed IHC people and good reading there I'm sure you could get some insight to your job there ,my guess is you could make a swap it is wheather it is justifiable, I considered doing a 1206 IHC to a 414 but couldn't see putting that much money in a 12000 hr tractor that was virtually wore out in all areas.

I'd love to put a Cummins 4BT into my jeep....also like to put a HPCR Cummins into an early Ramcharger....or even a small...say 30HP Yanmar/Kubota into...maybe......an early Austin Healy Sprite, or one of those little brit convertibles....course I'd have to rewire everything and get rid of all the Lucas elect parts...specially the headlight switch that reads "on" "off" and "flicker"...
hehehehehehehe:D

How about going from a 12 HP Kohler single to a 35 HP B&S Vanguard Twin in a garden tractor? Required a new adapter, hitch, wiring, and tranny, but it worked. The adapter had to be made from scratch.

Is Lucas elestrical gear as highly regarded over there as here in Australia?

Don't suppose I've come across any of their stuff for quite a while - have they suffered the fate they deserved?
