I am going to replace the wear edge on the front bucket of my loader (7308 NH)

I am currently searching for a used grader blade.

It was suggested to me to just weld it over top of the remains of the original instead of cutting the original off. Any suggestions or comments?

Cut the old one off. It will make life easier. You can also buy cutting edges. They come as flat stock and will be cut to length for you.

That's likely a good idea but grader blades are really brittle and take a bit of expertease to weld on. When the lip on mine needed replacing I'am pretty sure what was used was ordinary 1/2 by 4 or 5" flat bar champhered down on the leading edge. Welded in easy enough and has lasted quite well.
