Replacing hydraulic oil filter

I recently did my 50 hour service, and afterwards, one of my hydraulic filters is leaking just the tiniest bit. I may have to take it off and make sure the seating surface is clean. If I have to do this, do I have to drain the oil into a clean container first? Or is there some trick to allow removing of the filter without losing all the oil out of the receptacle?

If it is the suction filter down by the right rear wheel, hook a shop vac up to the hydraulic fill tube. That will reduce any leakage. If it is the horizontal filter by your right foot, that is charge pressure and no fluid will free flow, only get the fluid in the filter running out.

It's the suction filter. So, basically, it's cross your fingers and be quick about it? As much as hydraulic fluid costs, I hate to spill any more of it than I have to.
