I have 2 tractor cab roofs made of HDPE plastics. Want to try to fix them. Found this cheap repair kit, but I dont know if it’ll work on this type of plastic?
Has anyone had luck fixing this type of plastic? I dont want to use tape, I want to repair with a “weld”

Another option because you do not know if it is just going to keep cracking in other spots would be go yo a RV dealer and buy a piece of the rubber roofing material that that use in RVs. I used it on a car hauler I built and it was great. Clean the roof and glue a sheet over the entire roof.

Never used one but it looks promising.

I used this Fusor product, which is what autobody shops for repairing bumpers and like materials. MY BX2350 hood cracked, the rear is my mistake. Requires "plastic like" mesh and primer. Can also been sanded and painted. Repair is about 1year old. Should be found at body supply shops.

I use a machine that is a little different but the same concept. The wires come in different shapes and provide mechanical strength for the joint but does not fuse the pieces together. The repair is strong and I use it a lot for cracks in auto door panels. HDPE is hard to "glue." JB weld makes Plastic Bonder that works pretty well. Gluing a thin edge of plastic even 1/8th inch, will probably fail again. Best practice is to use another piece of plastic to overlap the seam of the crack along the length of the crack. Here is the machine I bought because it gets into tighter places and has three power settings.. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0883G5BF1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I also have a hot air plastic welder that fuses the plastic and can use filler rod. Like metal welding, it takes a fair amount of skill to use, and needs an air compressor.
The JB weld plastic binder is what worked really we for me on a vehicle plastic panel. So far it’s not cracked again. It comes in different colors.

I repaired a JD riding mower hood that was broken into numerous pieces using this tool. It makes a mechanical repair connecting the parts. After doing this process I put fiberglass cloth and resin over the staples. Be sure to use the staples on the underside.

Next I filled the topside with Bondo, sanded then primed and painted.

That old brittle hood is now stronger than new and look great!

Try MEK using some small shavings to make a paste with and then using the MEK again to melt them into the crack.
That only works on ABS and PVC like plastics, HDPE is way different and NOTHING sticks to it, and nothing breaks it down, it's basically why they're cracking down on plastic grocery bags... I always test MEK (usually I keep a bottle of Plastruct around, expensive for the size but it's handy as heck...it's just a glass bottle with brush in cap full of MEK) first before I go other methods...

I've welded plastic rain barrels split by frost by cutting slivers of the plastic from the opening as filler rod and using a fine pencil tip soldering iron. It works but the joints can be brittle. Holds water, just don't kick the joints or try to move the barrel when it's full of water.

I'm glad that some of you understand that working with the plastics made is contingent on whatever type it might be. (y)

For what it's worth, and I'll say I'm not at all experienced. Last fall I broke my radiator on my B5240 Kubota pushing brush like a bull dozer. Not wise but ... Anyway everyone told me I could not plastic weld the bottom of the rad because it was a special compound. I had a $1225 quote for a new rad.
Instead I removed the rad and used a soldering iron to prevent the smooth surface. I tried to drag both sides of the crack together and make some under cuts that would provide a good surface for the $7.00 two part epoxy an old farmer said would definitely work. I had my doubts but it was worth a try. I put on two coats of the epoxy and put it back together. It's been just over a year and no leaks. I use the bucket lots to pound posts which I know I shouldn't but ..

It might have more to do with the type of welding rods you use. There are rods for HPDE repair.

Get a welder like Body Shops use.
