I should have weighed this thing. It's HEAVY!
One day I'd like to have a welder so I can take care of this stuff myself (not like I could ever be as good as this local welding shop is). On this BH I'd like to modify it so it's QH compatible. Anyway, with the repairs that have been done it's still a whole heck of a lot cheaper than a new one: with the extra metal on top and now this fortified bracket it's close to being classed as "heavy duty" (new ones of these running $3.5k-ish.).

BTW - Welding costs came to $152. Note that I'd estimated $150 in my first posting! :cool2: (and I hadn't talked to anyone about the repair)

You were fortunate to find that cutter. Around here decent used cutters are almost impossible to get at a reasonable price. I traveled 160 miles one way to pickup a Brown 472. Didn't like the drive but the cutter was well worth it.
I modified my 286 to be QH compatible. Mostly just needed to drill a couple of new 7/8" holes for the uprights. Turned the "swivel" top link upside down and added a cat 1 to cat 2 bushing. I SHOULD have drilled the new upright holes about an inch farther back so that the uprights wouldn't interfere with the gussets. Also messed up my measurements and should have made them about 1" lower (future revision). I do have to pull the uprights toward the front a little when I go to hook up so that the top pin is easy to "hook".
