Why didnt you pop the pins and replace the door?
I was told by a couple carpenters that getting a new door to match the seal around an old door was pretty tricky,,
so, we never attempted the swap.

That might work, but, I am ZERO a carpenter,, especially when cutting wood does not include a chainsaw,, o_O

AND, I would have loved to replace the door,,
removing the multi-layers of paint that were on the inside took two full days of work.

The paint removal was initiated with "Purple Cleaner" that lifted and wrinkled most of the paint,,
(I have to guess the Purple Cleaner attacked the latex type paints.)

SO much scraping of soft paint, then sanding,,
not my usual paint prep,, I normally pressure wash, then paint,,,

Over the years I stripped and painted a few small aircraft.
What I would do is purchase a small sample size of the various strippers, both commercial and consumer quality, and do a test patch before committing to a product.
Sure made the job easier once U found the right match.
Also in a few cases stripper application followed by a plastic wrap (to slow evaporation) made the chore a snap'

The worst was lacquer finishes often used on early aircraft. That called for lots of basically gallons lacquer thinner and tons of rags.

Yes I paint my own, I have a paint shop so to speak and 16x40 booth. Just painted a 10x25 machine couple 3 weeks ago.
