JerryG and the others have said it as well as it can be said. Bad idea. Not only do you need an occupational license, you may have to have special zoning for business, you will pay taxes on the equipment, high costs for insurance etc. not to remention what Jerry said.

If your insuring agent is any good, he'll rapidly talk you out of this. If he's not, he'll hit the CHA-CHING button hard with what you are going to pay................

Insuring people that do excavation is very risky. They like to insure people with experience. Rentals, I don't think so.

Honestly, I don't know how the rental places do it. They must have huge deductibles--oh, I guess that's why they charge so much too!

All good advice - Thanks! Several neighbors and friends have asked to rent or borrow the machine so it seemed logical to get insurance and do it right. I doubt it would be worth it in the end either.

dont rent it i live 15 miles from you in haverhill after talking to my insurance agent the liability especially in our high insurance state would kill you in whatever you would make because all the liability falls on you. most homeowners dont carry enought liability ins.
