My neighbor acquired an older Renault Super 7 tractor that needs some work. He needs a head gasket to get started. Does anyone know where he might get information and parts for this tractor?
No, I'm not kidding. A friend of mine who had a similar problem with an obscure Italian engine wrote the Italian Embassy. A few weeks later he got a cordial letter back from them telling him where he could get parts.
Many years ago, I can remember my Dad buying gasket material at a local auto parts store and cutting his own gaskets. Don't ask me if they were head gaskets or not, I was a small child, can't remember what gaskets he cut or what they were for. I believe he placed the old gasket over the material and traced it, then cut it.
Most replacement head gaskets for old equipment are made of copper with a fiber filler. The copper will help eliminate any minor irregularities in the head or block.
Renault used either a Perkins, Deutz or MWM engine.
Perkins is available through Caterpillar as they own the place nowadays.
MWM is available through Deutz, also because Deutz owns it.
Deutz should be available anywhere in the world as it is a very common industrial engine.
