Does anyone have any suggestions for removing the front spindle assembly on an 8N ?
I've removed the steering linkage and the key.
From the diagrams I've seen there shouldn't be anything else holding the spindle assembly and it should fall out.
There is some movement but then a solid stop. I've tried a 4 lb pursuader, I've heated the tube, nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I grease the part of the spindle up right that is showing then I would beat it back into the knee. After that I would check to make sure that the head of the spindle is not mushroomed from hitting on it. If it is mushroomed I would file it back square. Then I would start soaking it with a penetrating oil (not WD40). Every day for a week I would douse it in oil, twice a day if possible. Then I would start beating it back out, while checking to make sure the head is not mushrooming. Penetrating oil will work wonders if it is given time to creep.

Since you got it down to about where the head is I am guessing that the head is mushroomed. Also bigger hammer is better. A 12 pound sledge is my preference, 4 lbs is lacking, if your feeling a good workout; a 20 lb hammer will make things move.

Thank you so much for your reply.
I'll give it some soaking and time. I'll also watch for mushrooming but I've been using a piece of brass and not hitting the pin directly.
Patience and a bigger hammer are our best tools!!, lol.
Thanks again.

Good thinking! The spindle might have already been mushroomed or deformed, especially if the knuckle was loose. Oil the snot out of it, and hopefully that will let you beat it out with ease.
