I keep a quart spray bottle to spot spray oil, grease, chain saw bar oil, etc.

Getting all the nooks and crannies that are so common on tractors can be enough to drive ya nuts.

Solvent of choice, both in a spray bottle and a jar/pan/open top container.

Rags... lots of em.

Wire brush where you have rust or non painted surface you dont care about hurting the finish.

Old paint brush or softer bristle parts brush for painted surfaces.

Compressor and sprayer nozzle.

Safety glasses, other PPE. (Personal Protective Equipment)

Wipe off what you can, spray down with solvent, let it soak in, respray, losen with a brush, respray as needed, brush, wipe off what you can, repray, air hose out the corners/nooks/crannies, spray/wipe in what ever order you need to get as clean as you want. You'll likely get one area nicely cleaned up then knock the biggest off of the rest when you see how frustrating it can be...

I just cleaned the grease and grime off my B26 yesterday. I used Naphtha and it worked very well with no oily residue left like diesel. I just cleaned the sheet metal and not the engine. For a greasy engine, I would get it hot and then spray it with an engine cleaner, let it set a bit and the power wash it. Don't get too close with the nozzle so you don't damage seals.
After removing a years worth of grease, I waxed all the hood and fenders. First time in 2years for wax but it shined up very good.

I was so pumped by then that I decided to wax my Goldwing motorcycle also.

Odorless mineral spirits on a rag or paper towel works great. You can use regular mineral spirits, but the smell stays around for a long while.

Mineral spirits are great for removing polyurethane from hands and brushes too. It will cut through some gunk for sure.

Since everybody has already given good advice on solvents to use I can't add to the list but for you guys who buy TRC grease and oil, you might be interested in trying out their "Big Red" cleaner. It's a very good cleaner and is ph neutral so it does not damage paint.
