Howdy, folks. I am finally getting around to taking off the snow blower for the first time. Well, the snow blower was easy. The subframe is giving me fits. After disconnecting from the blower, I put down pressure on the frame so I could remove the subframe pins. (Which is when I discovered the dealer let it go out the door with only the front pins and not the midpoint pins. Grr.)

I removed the down pressure and attempted to pull the drawbar. My understanding is that is what you do, then down pressure again and remove the shaft at the mid-PTO. Then relive the pressure and disconnect the hoses.

Regardless, I am stuck at removing the drawbar. I can wiggle it left and right and up and down a bit, but it ain't coming out.

Mechanical geometry is not intuitive to me.

I'd greatly appreciate
1. Comments/corrections on the proper procedure and order of steps for subframe removal.
2. Suggestions on what to do to remove the drawbar.

thanks, bws

bubbas45,

I've never been able to remove the subframe using just the tractor hydraulics. Typically I use a floor jack to take the pressure off the drawbar. Just enough upward lift on the subframe to reduce the friction on the drawbar. Too much upward pressure and it won't come loose either. Typically place the jack under the subframe between the front and rear tire.

The duckbill can then be used to remove the front pins and lower the front down.

I've seen video's where only the duckbill was used to raise and lower into position, but my subframe doesn't pivot on the parking stand. With the stand in position mine doesn't seem to have enough weight at the duckbill to cause the back (drawbar end) to raise up.

If someone has an idea why my subframe doesn't pivot (seesaw) at the parking stand, I'd like to know. For what it is worth I've had the subframe mounted on a L3130 and L4740-3 adjusting subframe for each tractor per the provided instructions.

I believe the proper installation procedure per instructions:
1. Insert drawbar end
2. Raise front and install large pins in front
3. Insert mid pins

What I do...
1. Insert large pins in front
2. jack rear of subframe and insert draw bar
3. Insert mid pins

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, moship. I was wondering whether a floor jack would work. I'll give it a try.

Tell me about that parking stand. Is it something that pivots down? I don't recall seeing anything like that.

Yes, the parking stand is the part that pivots down from the subframe and looks like a rectangular piece of 3/16" thick by about 6" wide steel. It pivots about 90 degrees by pulling on the spring loaded pin.

Bubbas45,

Now that it is snow season...

Are you having any success mounting the quick hitch? Any tricks you'd like to pass along?
