Is it absolutely necessary to remove the FEL in order to remove the Engine side cover ?

On my BX23, I need to remove the brush guard and side covers. I just raise the bucket to do this. you can place a step ladder under it for saftey purposes....you'll only bang your head once on the bucket....after that you won't forget its there....

Ok thanks, I was going to jam a 2x6 in to hold the bucket up

its not necessary, but its easier and safer dont you think ? the FEL comes off in less then 5 mins anyways so no biggie. If you dont take it off, be sure to engage the FEL control lock and use 2X6 like you were thinking of.

Its just makes me uneasy with something that much weight over my head, so if I were you , just take it off.
