Remove depth stop knob on JD GT235

I'm trying to get deep enough to see what's wrong with steering mechanism and I need to remove deck.
Tech manual says "remove depth stop knob." I cannot figure out how to do that. What's holding it?

I'd look for a set screw.. being as it turns there must be something keeping it from slipping on the shaft. There is a snap ring shown in parts... see if that shows on the knob.

I believe time is the only thing holding the depth stop knob on. I had to take the knob off of my GT225 and I pulled and pried and yanked and it wouldn't budge. Finally broke it and bought a new one that easily went back on. Try spraying it from the bottom but be prepared to buy a new one.

Some have a screw most pull off with some persuasion.

My depth stop slips on the end of the shaft. The shaft rusted and it was necessary to tap it from behind with a small hammer to break it loose.
