Remote operated log splitter

Used a 3pt log splitter last week and on this model tractor the remote hyd lever had to be tied with a strap so that the log splitter would operate. Will this cause damage to the tractor?

No that won't affect hyd system

Just be sure the control valve on the splitter is open center to match the tractor hydraulic system. If you run closed center valve on open center tractor, the hydraulics will overheat and can cause damage to pump and seals.

Good point jd110. I didn't consider LS valve being closed center type since a larger majority of hyd valves are open center.

Surely if it is a new log splitter that was built for this type of hook up it will be a open center valve.
Should it say this somewhere on the valve or is there a way to tell?

When you tie the tractor lever back, you shouldn't hear any hydraulic hissing sound or the engine shouldn't labor. If it does, then chances are good it is closed center.

So how do you determine the open/closed type on a Kabota 4400 HST if you're somehow tapping the system for remote use of a DR 3PT log splitter mounted off the tractor stationary on the ground? Thx.

The Hydraulics:
Type: open center
Capacity: 10.6 gal [40.1 L] (gear)
11.9 gal [45.0 L] (hydro)
Valves: 0 to 3
Pump flow: 8.4 gpm [31.8 lpm]
Total flow: 13.5 gpm [51.1 lpm]
Steering flow: 5.1 gpm [19.3 lpm]


The tractor is open center as you can see, The pump flow is 8.4 GPM's

Make your self a remote QD hose for a log splitter log/ BH connection. Run a hose from the loader valve PB port and put a QD on the end, then plug in the log splitter and run a hose from the log splitter valve back to a return line of dump to tank.

Hooked my splitter supply line into the pressure port side of the BH connection on the tractor. Hooked the BH supply line into the return on the splitter. WORKING LIKE A CHAMP! HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY!
