Hello all, I pick up a used Speeco log splitter. My tractor, a New Holland Boomer 50 has 1 hydraulic outlet on the back and a joystick for the loader. I tested it out by hooking up to the hydraulics and if I put the log splitter valve on float I can operate the splitter from the tractor valve.
Can I harm the tractor hydraulics by operating it this way? Does anyone have any suggestions to make this work better? I have heard of power beyond kits but I don't know much about them. Is that what I need?

Probably really should have proper power beyond (PB) so the "control" is only for log splitter and the controls for FEL is complete out of the picture....

Is there a reason that you didn’t use the rear remotes on your tractor to run the splitter vs loader circuit?

You may need a bungee cord to hold the tractor control valve in shifted position when operating the splitter.

If you do this make sure the valve is an open center valve on the splitter. Typicaly they are.

This is prob the simplest and easiest way to get the thing to work with your machine. For a more permident fix you could make a small bar that locks the rear remote lever in one direction.

The speeco splitter was available with a closed center and open center valve if I remember right. They normally shipped with an open center. On mine I run it off a rear remote. Plug it in like normal and if it does not have a detente then I bungee cord it. Just make sure that your feeding the splitter valve the correct way. The splitter valve is marked with in and out. Valves are not meant to be pressurized in reverse, so I would not advise running the splitter off of the tractor valve. If you want to do that then just eliminate the splitter valve and hook straight from the remote to the cylinder.

If the tractor loads up and you can hear its valve going in relief and the splitter valve is in neutral, and the flow is correct, then you most likely have a closed center valve.
