Relocate the BX25 fuel pump forward.

I know that several people have done a nice job installing a better filter for the first fuel filter that is prior to the electric pump.

And most route the fuel line forward to the new filter and then back again to the fuel pump left in its stock position under the tractor.

But has anyone moved the electric fuel pump forward so that both filters and the pump are all together and the line is not running back and forth?

At this point I am more concerned with making everything easier to access and maintain not even looking to upgrade the filter right now.

Not sure moving it will help much. I moved the filter at the engine fuel pump down underneath to make it easier to get too. Pulling the cowling to get at stuff is a real pain in the rear. Now 5 min and I have both filters changed. Put a valve ahead of the first filter also so I no longer have to pinch off the line.

Everyone is different for sure. I don't mind taking off the cowl. I would rather not have to lay down and look up and reach up............. and have diesel run down my arm. Yes I am looking for a nice valve to add also.

Electric fuel pumps prefer to push rather than pull, so it seems your idea would also make the pump happier.

I am one person who recently added a Racor filter to my BX. I originally didn't have mine plumbed to filter before the pump but after some reading plumbed it to filter before the lift pump. And yes, your idea occurred to me. It seems like it might make a larger load on the pump with the extra filter and all the lines running back and forth. I looked at moving the pump forward but didn't feel like messing with it. There is a little wiring involved but not much. I don't think it would be hard to do. So far with my extra filter installed I don't think I have any fuel delivery problems.

I ordered this little 5/16" in line shut off valve. Even if I leave everything as is, I will add this before the first filter.

Well I spent all day looking at it from every angle. Moving the lift pump isn't that easy. That short looking pump really isn't that short when you factor in the overall length with the hose barbs and then the radius you need to make on the hose. As much as I am not thrilled with the hose running up and back it might be best to leave it where it is.

I think its fine where it is.
Especially since the tank is so much higher, it has gravity working in Its favor.

Update: filter installed and left pump in place.

Well I spent enough time looking at it and finally came up with a plan and mounted my filter. I decided on mounting it behind the loader bracket instead of in front of it. I had turned the wheel all the way to the left and then jacked up the left wheel until the axle hit the stop on the frame. The front left wheel really tucks in very close to the frame and the loader bracket, so I decided not to mount in that area.

I made a stainless steel bracket that slides in between the front left floorboard mounting area. Just take out the one carriage bolt holding the floorboard, slide in the bracket, and but the bolt back through and tighten it.

I had read in another post about the Racor casting being rough. Mine is brand new out of the box, and the 1/4 pipe threads were a little rough about half way in. The new brass hose barbs did not want to go in smoothly by hand. Also, the little approx. 1/8" bypass hole that you see looking at the inside of the casting had a chip of metal stuck in it left over from machining. So I took a brand new 1/4 pipe tap and aluminum tapping fluid and cleaned out the four threaded ports. Then I took the vent plug off the front and gave it a good hot soap and water wash and thorough compressed air dry to make sure there was no more machining debris in the casting.

I used Gates made in USA 5/16 fuel hose and split wire loom covering like Kubota uses to cover hoses.

I had pressure washed the tractor before I started so that everything was clean, and then during the install, I took off the plastic baffles below the radiator, it makes it easy to run the hoses. I had never had them off before, and that was quite a surprise, amazing how much grass and dirt was packed in there. Cleaned it up in there while the baffles were off before I put them back on, good for another few years.

That's probably as good as any place, nice install. Also make sure the drain valves on the bottom of the Racor are tight, mine came loose right away and leaked.

Thank you. Yes it already left a drip from the drain. Being cautious not to over tighten it being all plastic.

Nice job. Since I have yet to move my filter, I'm going to take a look at where you put yours. Maybe do the same. One thing I'm not sure of on yours - can you see the filter to see if it has water in it?

Also as far as locating the filter before the pump, like someone said, with the tank so much higher it's all gravity fed down to the pump so the lift pump really just needs to lift the fuel up to the engine. Same as with the OEM set up.

Thank you. Yes you can see the filter if you kneel down and look up under the floor board.

My filter took the place of the first filter, the lift pump and second filter were left in their original place and function.

On the issue of knowing when water is in the bowl, Parker/Racor makes water probes that go in the fuel bowl and several styles of buzzer or light detection modules........... may be a project for another day! http://www.parker.com/literature/Racor/10219_Rev_B_120A_and_120B_Series.pdf

I bought one of these Racor filter funnels also when I bought the filter, so the fuel will already be 1x filtered before it gets to the onboard filter. I haven't tried it yet. I bought the smallest one it is just slightly larger than the fuel tank opening so it won't fall in.

My plan is to locate the Racor just forward of the secondary filter, on a raised bracket using an already existing hole location and drill a second one. Bracket will mount to inside of frame, so filter will clear cowling. A little longer line run, but think it should still work.
