Might be a stupid question but I'll ask anyway, grapples are capable of picking up logs from the top correct? Kinda like the claw game at amusement parks :D ?

OH yeah grapples work well and you can even load and unload trailers full of fire wood:thumbsup:

I have pallet forks to for my ford 3000 and a L778 New Holland skid steer with pallet forks.

My preferred choice is always the Rhino with grapple- but other ways work better for some other folks. Almost any method is better than manual labor for us guys with damaged backs!

Pick from the top? Like this? Yeah, grapples are good at that.

I'm with TnAndy ... pallet forks I would think would have the most overall utility.

Plus they don't require auxiliary hydraulics like a grapple does.

Grapples are a very neat and handy tool ... assuming you have the need to justify the additional investment ... but so are a set of pallet forks (and no auxiliary hydraulics required ;))

cheap way would be buy a set of log tongs. mine are from auctions and never cost over 50.00. you can use off of draw bar or front loader.

I second the log tongs idea. That is what i use to move logs and large rounds onto the splitter. I attach a chain to my bucket hooks hanging the tongs and once you gets use to them you don't even need to get off of the tractor just drop onto the log and they open and grab. Another nice thing about the tongs is once the log is in the air you can rotate it for placement. Best thing going for under $100 and your off working. Just make sure you have a good amount of counter weight.

Pallet forks hands down. After the logs are gone you will never use the grapple or log tongs, but the pallet forks will be handy for years to come and are more economical to buy than the grapple. I put a lot of things on pallets and they are easy to move around. That being said, if you are going to be cutting firewood or clearing land, the grapple would serve you well.

I am very happy with my forks and they cost much less than a grapple. They go on the tractor when the snow is gone and stay on till snow flies.

That is a serous slash pile... Did you create that with your bx?

I would suggest forks as well if you aren't going to have a future use for a grapple. The forks are far more versatile and if you can put everything on pallets and stuff can be stored much closer together and you don't need to worry about access to things in back.

As far as the lawn is concerned the forks can make minimal damage if used gentle, and there is always the option to roll the logs on.

Before you buy anything I would try the cregslist add, you never know you might even be able to sell the wood if it's priced low enough and it's good quality. Just a thought but go buy the forks then try to sell the wood for the price of the forks (if you have enough) and offer to load it for them (maybe deliver if you have the means) then you get a free attachment and the wood gone.
