rebuilt engine reccomendation?

unfortunately at least around here, junkyard motors are ridiculously priced. For $900 I can get one with 126K on it. There are few available.
I know the Jasper's are good, but I can't afford one.
There are a bunch of outfits that sell online for about 1150 -same price on most of them. Of course add shipping.
Interesting about the PepBoys motors. Spartan Engines sells only through Advance auto ( at least now)

$900 is not the price, it's the beginning of a conversation. Would you pay the asking price for something in a pawn shop? Never in this world. A fair price would be around $500, cash offer. Show the boss 5 crisp $100 bills and he won't let you walk away. 5 bills is a whole lot better than a piece of junk sitting in his yard.

Your right, i got a friend (kind of) who owns a junk yard. they may buy a Jeep wrangler in that range that was totaled out at a sale for $900. that means if he sells the motor for that price all other is profit. Not saying a guy cant make a profit but one part making his investment is a little high. If it was running and tranny is not busted he still has the trans to sell the axle dorrs and all body taht is good, then can still crush the rest when he sells the fast movers and make a few hundred off the rest.

Texted my budy. He said Pepboys now uses Probuilt brand engines. He said there good and have a 3yr 100K mile warrenty.

But if you can get that junk yard engine down to 500 or 650 i think id still think about that. Afterall a factor engine cared for should turn 250K easy now a days.

My Wrangler needs a new engine. Yes I know I should drop a V8 in it, but that can't happen now.
I've been looking at these long block reman engines that are all over the place for about $1150 + shipping , but I don't know if they're any good. Does anyone have experience with these companies?
BTW this is a daily driver so I can't take the time to rebuild it myself.

Getting a little long in the tooth to find a good used engine, easier when they are between 5 and 10 years old. Good place to look though is here.

Enter your VIN and it does most of the hard work for you.

Jasper as some have mentioned is considered to be the premium reman. motor. The rest you kind of take your chances.

It's a simple motor which tips the odds of getting a good rebuilt in your favor.
